Air New Zealand analyzed data from a custom survey distributed to 1,200 travelers from around the world. The survey was designed to provide insight into people’s perceptions of overall vacation enjoyment.

THE SURVEY RESULTS

9 to 10 is the estimated number of hours people say they work every day

49% of people rate their stress levels as “moderate” to “extreme”

50% of people say they experience a 10 to 25 % decrease in work stress following a vacation

51% of people are willing to reduce benefits, daily breaks, pay or holiday time off to get more vacation time

20% of people cite workload as biggest vacation obstacle

11% of people cite “guilt about leaving work” as biggest vacation obstacle

52% of people believe delegating your workload before a vacation is important

Do You Need Permission or Prescription?

67% of people think doctors should be able to write prescriptions for a vacation

1% of people think getting permission from your doctor for a vacation is most important when it comes to taking vacation

41% of people cite gaining permission from yourself as most important when it comes to taking vacation.

35% of people said gaining permission from your boss is most important when it comes to taking vacation

My Vacation

59% of people say they feel “in vacation mode” before they even reach their destination

43% feel like they never had a vacation about four days after they have returned

The average length of days people say they take for vacation is 10 days

The ideal number of days they say they would like to take of vacation is 18 days.
